“Mob City,” the new drama from TNT, is set to premiere on Wednesday, Dec. 4, and already has an impressive fan base … “Walking Dead” viewers! The strong advertising campaign for the “epic 3 week event” has been boasting that “Mob City” is from the creative mind of Frank Darabont from “The Walking Dead”-- the showunner for the AMC hit series during its first season. And while fans of the zombie apocalypse drama are interested to see what else Darabont has up his sleeves, they’re also getting a special treat by tuning in … watching deceased “Walking Dead” characters come back to life!
So, who is returning from beyond the grave? Jon Bernthal, Andrew Rothenberg and Jeffrey DeMunn.
Bernthal played a cop named Shane during the first two seasons of “The Walking Dead.” Evolving into bad guy with jealousy issues, he was killed by Rick at the end of season 2 and returned as a zombie … only to be shot in the head by Carl.
Bernthal will return as a cop, but this time in 1940s Los Angeles, not zombie-ridden Georgia. The actor will be play Joe Teague, who has an opportunity to “bring down one of the city’s most infamous mobsters.” No word on whether he’ll be taking a bullet in this drama.
DeMunn was also killed off during season 2 of “The Walking Dead.” He played Dale, the RV driving, moral compass of the group. After trying to encourage the group of survivors to spare a man’s life, Dale was attacked by a walker in the field at Hershel’s house.
DeMunn will be finding new life on “Mob City” as Hal Morrison, a police officer heading LAPD’s new mob squad.
“Walking Dead” fans will remember Rothenberg as Jim, one of the original members of the surviving group. Unfortunately, Jim didn’t make it too far after Rick joined the group. When the camp was attacked right outside of Atlanta, Jim was bit by a walker and succumbed to the infection shortly after.
Rothenberg will be playing Eddy Sanderson, a member of Hal Morrison’s LAPD mob squad.
The pilot episode, “A Guy Walks Into A Bar,” will introduce Joe Teague (Bernthal), who receives a bribe from Hecky Nash (guest star Simon Pegg), a stand-up comic working with Mickey Cohen’s (Jeremy Luke) mob. Nash wants Teague to protect him “during a dangerous blackmail scheme involving the Los Angeles mob” … and Teague sees this offer as “the perfect opportunity to bring down one of the city’s most infamous mobsters.”
You can catch the first two episodes of “Mob City” when the three-week event premieres on TNT on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 9 p.m. The next two episodes will air on Wednesday, Dec. 11, and the final two will air on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
